I heard about Salyan for its popular Ginger and vegetable production being as an agriculturist. I visited a couple of times the district head quarter and worked earlier in the western part of the district. But I did not get much time to feel the salyan as a whole. I have got an opportunity to work and know the people of salyan and its potentiality specially in agriculture, as routine transfer of the officials.
On the last Friday, of Shrawan (2076), I started my journey at my home at 07:00 am by a jeep for the very new office which was about 195 Km away from the start. We had our lunch at Tulasipur and again drove ahead towards the destination. It was 01:30 pm while we reached the most awaited destination Zone office, where the existing staff welcomed with flowers and tika.

I joined PMAMP, PIU, Salyan on the 18th August, 2019 with managerial responsibility as my fifth office in my carrier. Salyan is a district of Karnali province with great potential in agriculture sector. The district covers 195178 hectares (1951.78 sq Km) of which 65.68% is forest, 19.60% agriculturally cultivated land and 12.7% uncultivated land.

The next day was Saturday, I have been thinking of spending the holiday as it was the new place. I was lucky, as it was the second day after janai purnima to see cultural celebration by people of salyan (shreenagar) as Gaijatra (Janaipurnima). I roved around the shreenagar city and flat lands around in the evening time. There is very beautiful and productive flat lands through which SHARADA rives flows quietly.

Formally, I started my office on the third day. I spent time with the existing colleges of the Zone office and tried to know the locations as well as the major outcomes of the office programs. The internal audit came for audit on second official day which made me to know more about the work done by that unit. I got good opportunity to participate the meeting of chief of district offices on the third day which helped me to be familiar with the district government officials and chief district administrator within the first week at district administration office, Khalanga (district headquarter). After the completion of the meeting, I got warm welcome by the district officials in a welcome cum farewell ceremony organized by Karmachari Milankendra (a group of government officials). The office of District Administration is one of the historical place of the district, is the historical palace.

Zone office is situated at the shreenagar (salyan); is the flat land among the hills through which well famous rives flows down providing very productive land for the people. I use to walk around the bajar and some times through the fields near the Shreenar.

I heard much about the Salyan for its popular production ie. Ginger. However, the district have potentialities of some other agricultural commodities too. There is great potential to expand the citrus, fresh vegetables and cereals mainly rice/maize specially in the flat lands created by the SAHARADA, MARMA and JIMALI rivers.

I got an opportunity to visit some places of northern and western part of the district. We, four staffs as a team visited KUMAKH RURAL MUNICIPALITY which one of the remote local levels of the district. We followed the way from Shreenagar through Tharmare (Bagchaur Municipality) and Chaurpani to RANGE CHAUR (head quarter of KUMAKH). Rangechaur is the place which connects the western Rukum. During the visit, we met with the Chief Administrative Officer and Agricultural technician of KUMAKH R.Municipality and discussed regarding the feasibility of rice and other agricultural commodity for the development of those sector. We were blocked by rose flood of JIMALI river around the catchment area.

The visiting team returned back from Rangechaur on the next day. It took about two hours to reach Tharmare (about 25 Kms) due to the rough roads. We met with the ASDP team and Bagchaur Municipality Officials at Bagchaur. There is Martyr gate at Bagchaur, shows the contribution of Salyani people (176 dead) during the last democratic movement. Then we met the precedent Ward no 1 of the SHIDDHA KUMAKH R.MUNICIPALITY and discussed about the Zone commodity for the commercialization. His views showed that he is quite enthusiastic towards the project activities. We visited few infrastructure supported by Zone and PACT as well near by the road heads. The infrastructures for collection and processing were not operating properly due to poor management of user groups which needs to upgrade the capacities on them about the business operation plan and buyback arrangement.

I enjoyed visiting the different places of the project sites and activities in last two weeks. In the third week, I explored a holly and historical touristic place of the Salyan ie. KUPINDE DAHA (a lake surrounded by the the hills). Its beautiful place with clear and seems deep green. It is about 25 Km west from the Khalanga through the Khalanga-Baluwasangrahi road which is gravelled, a bit rough in this season due to washout by rain.

Kupinde is the famous touristic place which is awaiting for fundamental facilities like resting place as well as foods and drinks availability on the site. There is only two shade houses which were not enough to resist rain, only gives shade on intensive light. The concerned local level needs to give their critical attention to develop Kupinde as tourism destination.
